My Server

My server sits on the floor of my computer room.

(I have two rooms : my bedroom and my computer room).

We bought it used in October 2012.

When we bought it, it had a 1 TB drive.

In 2015, that drive failed and I replaced it with a new 1 TB drive.

I might have replaced that 1 TB drive once, but I cannot remember.

Later, (maybe 2022, I can't remember), I replaced that drive with a 4 TB one as the old one was getting full.

On September 25, 2023, that 4 TB drive failed and I replaced it with a new 8 TB drive.

I had previously wanted to wait for Ubuntu 24 to come out and do a fresh install on the new 8 TB drive, but the drive failure changed that plan.

When Ubuntu 24 comes out, I will do the upgrade on that 8 TB drive.

I have three 8 TB drives in total :

• The "master" one. I use this drive.
• The "backup" one. I do my backup with rsync on / to this drive (which is inside my server).
• The "replacement" one. When one drive fails, I replace it with this one.
